New Standard Paves the Way for First Truly Global Enterprise Architecture Description Language
Under development since 2002, the ArchiMate standard was originally established by the Dutch Telematica Insitute in conjunction with a consortium of enterprises, government organizations and research institutions, including the ArchiMate Foundation. Since that time, the language has experienced rapid growth and international adoption across multiple industries, and it is currently supported by major tools vendors and consulting firms. As an open and independent modeling language, ArchiMate 1.0 also serves as an ideal method for delivering architecture models based on The Open Group's global standard framework for enterprise architecture, TOGAF. In addition, ArchiMate is an ideal starting point for model driven architecture (MDA) within all industry frameworks because its service- and design-oriented perspective on architecture has clear implementation relationships to both Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and Unified Modeling Language (UML).
"Designing a common language for enterprise architectures is fundamental to achieving better interoperability between businesses on a global scale," said
ArchiMate 1.0 development was officially brought under the aegis of The Open Group with the formation of the ArchiMate Forum in
"We're pleased that the ArchiMate Forum has now ratified ArchiMate 1.0 as the global standard modeling language for enterprise architectures," said
