AMD (NYSE:AMD) announced today that it is an official technology partner and sponsor of "Austin City Limits" public television program, America's longest running live music television broadcast which airs nationally on more than 300 PBS stations every week. AMD is also announcing it is co-sponsoring the Austin City Limits Music Festival, an annual three-day music festival that is one of America's favorite outdoor live music events, attracting an estimated 65,000 attendees per day.
AMD is already providing the digital audio backbone for the Austin City Limits television broadcast. KLRU, Austin's local PBS station that produces the show, is using AMD64 technology to record live music and enhance the ACL experience for music fans. KLRU is also using the same technology to prepare for the move to high-definition (HD) standards mandated by the FCC for all TV broadcasters in America. For the Sept. 23-25, 2005 music festival, AMD will sponsor one of eight performance stages, and AMD64 technology will be used to record live performances.
"Our technology alliance with Austin City Limits and the Austin City Limits Music Festival demonstrates AMD's commitment not only to Austin, but to music fans around the world. AMD understands the importance of providing the best quality recording experience," said Hector Ruiz, AMD chairman and CEO. "We have quickly become an important friend and collaborator to digital artists everywhere."
"The music and media industries have undergone rampant changes over the past few years and now more than ever, ACL has secured its place as a trusted source for fans to experience music. We believe in creating deep connections between fans and artists and with the support of AMD and their leading-edge digital technology, we are able to create even closer connections as we present high quality music through a variety of formats," said Bill Stotesbery, CEO of KLRU. "This alliance with AMD is a natural evolution, ensuring Austin City Limits will continue to meet fans wherever they experience music, from stage to screen to home entertainment centers."
The 2005 Austin City Limits Music Festival features a line up of musical acts that is second to none and is expected to attract more than 65,000 attendees each day from around the world. The musical acts expected to appear on the AMD stage include: Spoon, The Bravery, The Decemberists, Tortoise, The Fiery Furnaces, Bloc Party, Keane, Rachel Yamagata, The Frames, Kasabian, Mates of State, Kaiser Chiefs, Teagan and Sara, Ambulance Ltd., and The Ditty Bops.
