Connecticut Volunteers Join More Than 4,300 New England Volunteers and 50,000 Volunteers Nationwide On Annual Day of Community Service

BERLIN, Conn., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast employees and their family members and friends will turn out in force TOMORROW, Saturday, April 25, to connect with their local communities by volunteering at five Connecticut nonprofit organizations as part of the 8th annual Comcast Cares Day, one of the nation's largest single-days of corporate community service.

"Comcast is proud to be an active member in each of the 83 communities we serve in Connecticut, and Comcast Cares Day is our commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities where our customers and employees live and work," said Michael Parker, Vice President for Comcast in Connecticut. "There is nothing more rewarding than giving back, and I'm grateful to the more than 600 Comcast Cares Day volunteers across Connecticut who will donate their time to help make such a big difference."

This year, Comcast is partnering with the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut to install the City of Hartford's first "Born Learning Trail" at Burns Elementary School. Additionally, volunteers will spruce up New Haven's Edgewood Park, participate in landscaping and painting projects at French Memorial Park in Seymour and the Katie Blair House in Norwich and ready the Middlesex YMCA's Camp Ingersoll in Portland for the summer season.

"United Way is proud to be connected to such an exciting project that will benefit families and children in our community," said Susan Dunn, President and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. "Through the building of the City of Hartford's first 'Born Learning Trail,' Comcast will be creating a fun and effective way for parents to teach their children the kinds of skills they need to be prepared for school success. In addition, by engaging employees around the needs of young children and families in Hartford through this project, Comcast is serving as a role model for others to follow."

"We are extremely grateful to everyone from Comcast who is making this day possible," said Claire Silva, Executive Director of Bethsaida Community, Inc., which includes the Katie Blair House. "Such a strong commitment to helping those less fortunate shows that Comcast truly cares."

Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast helps power the dreams of local communities as part of the company's year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves. This year's day of service is expected to attract more than 50,000 Comcast employees and their families to more than 500 community sites nationwide. In New England, more than 4,300 volunteers are pitching in at more than 50 different sites, including the five Connecticut locations. Since the first Comcast Cares Day took place in 2001, more than 170,000 Comcast volunteers have contributed over one million hours of service at more than 1,750 project sites in local communities throughout the country. Tomorrow, volunteers are expected to donate another 300,000 hours of service, bringing the total service hours during all Comcast Cares Days to more than 1.3 million.

Since the inception of its annual day of service, the Comcast Foundation has contributed grants totaling more than $6.6 million to local community partner organizations. This year, it will once again donate significant grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year and help power the dreams of neighborhoods nationwide.
