Autonomy Unveils Most Advanced Audio Processing Solution for Law Firms

Posted on: Tuesday, 28 April 2009, 03:00 CDT

NEW YORK - GearUp 2009 Executive Briefing Roadshow,, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today unveiled the world's most advanced audio processing solution for law firms. Integrated into Autonomy iManage WorkSite and Universal Search, the solution provides lawyers with unprecedented access to all audio assets on a single platform, including voicemails to and from clients, depositions, and podcasts or audio recordings for continuing legal education (CLE). Lawyers can quickly and easily locate information locked in audio format thus boosting productivity, cutting firm costs and significantly improving client service.

"The integration of advanced audio search and processing capabilities into WorkSite is a sector-defining development and will bring significant value to our lawyers," said John Sroka, Chief Information Officer for Duane Morris, a leading Am Law 100 law firm. "As a long time iManage customer we are excited about the rapid rate of innovation, and our ability to leverage our investment in WorkSite to continually improve the tools that empower our professionals to deliver the highest quality of service to our clients."

According to the 2008 ILTA survey of top law firms, close to 50% of law firms now use unified messaging, accessing voicemail via their email client. However, many firms are ill-equipped to efficiently access and manage this increasingly important form of information.

Unlike legacy methods for audio processing, which require costly manual human intervention, Autonomy fully integrates audio into all phases of a law firm's business process from routine case management to litigation. Built on Autonomy's Meaning Based Computing platform which can bring meaning to data in any format, this technology indexes the audio without the need for any prior transcription and develops an understanding of key concepts in the audio stream, identifying speakers in hundreds of hours of audio recordings and linking audio with other data types, including email. The same unique audio search and processing technology, which reduces the volume of audio recordings to be reviewed by up to 95%, is also available in Autonomy eDiscovery products.

"Audio is an increasingly common data type for law firms that must be managed and accessible like any other data format," commented Anthony Bettencourt, CEO of Autonomy Interwoven. "Law firms need fast and accurate access to depositions and increasingly rely on audio and podcasts for continuing legal education. Autonomy offers the world's most advanced audio processing capabilities enabling legal teams to quickly process all audio assets on a single platform, and cross reference this traditionally untapped format with other valuable content in the law firm."

Audio support is an add-on module to WorkSite as well as iManage Universal Search.
