ROBOBAK Introduces Rental Program, Designed to Provide Data Protection at Lower Cost for Companies, Managed Service Providers

April 28, 2009

Try it, then buy it” feature allows firms to build rental equity toward full software licensing; shifting costs from capital expenditures to operational budgets

ATLANTA, April 28 /PRNewswire/ROBOBAK(TM), the leader in agentless data protection software designed for remote and branch offices, today launched a software rental program designed to enable more companies and managed service providers (MSPs) than ever before to protect corporate-critical data at a fraction of the cost.

The company said it will make its software available for rental, with prices beginning at less than $1,000 per month. In addition, ROBOBAK said it would also allow firms that rent its software to convert all or a portion of the money they pay in rent toward the purchase of a full license. By doing so, ROBOBAK has further extended its traditional leadership in making reasonably priced data protection software accessible to companies of all sizes.

“ROBOBAK’s rental program allows us to offer our clients solid data protection at an affordable monthly price point that makes sense for both them and us,” said Bill Bunnell, president of Network Builders IT, an MSP located in Modesto, California. Bunnell noted that while he already offers his small and mid-sized customers other managed services like network monitoring and patch management as part of his company’s CommonGround service, ROBOBAK will provide a significant additional value. “Upfront costs can be prohibitive; by renting ROBOBAK v9, we can effectively spread out the cost of keeping our clients’ data secure, and budget more effectively as we do so.”

Companies that take advantage of the rental program will quickly realize the value; ROBOBAK’s “at-the-source” de-duplication functionality allows firms to handle larger backup volumes with the same (or less) network bandwidth, as well as store more data far more efficiently in far less space, delivering an even greater value for their money.

“One of ROBOBAK’s original value propositions was driving down the costs of remote office branch office (ROBO) data protection, offering a lower cost but still full-featured service-based backup solution that gave many more companies an option to protect distributed data,” said Eric Burgener, senior analyst at the Taneja Group. “This new rental program furthers that vision by dropping the entry price points down around $1,000, the net result of which will be more comprehensive coverage of more data for more companies. Given explosive data growth coupled with increasingly stringent business and regulatory requirements for data recovery, this offering should be welcomed by end users.”

ROBOBAK’s v9 Data Protection Suite includes Thin Backup and Restore(TM) (TBR), an industry-first feature that cuts the time needed to complete File, Exchange and SQL Server backups to mere minutes, even for very large databases. TBR enhances ROBOBAK’s existing feature set, which includes source-based compression, an “incremental forever” approach to backups, and the creation of “synthetic” full backups on demand in real time to simplify restore procedures. As a result, ROBOBAK provides comprehensive ROBO backup and recovery solutions requiring minimum bandwidth between local and remote locations.

ROBOBAK’s v9 Data Protection Suite software is available exclusively through its worldwide channel of resellers and managed service providers. More information can be obtained at www.robobak.com, or by calling 404.ROBOBAK.
