Alliance Board Member Walter E. Massey Elected Chairman of Bank of America

ATLANTA, April 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE) Chairman Julius H. Hollis today offered congratulations to ADE Board Member Dr. Walter E. Massey following the announcement of his election to serve as Board Chairman of Bank of America Corporation. Dr. Massey, who was appointed to his leadership role with The Alliance in December 2008, also co-chairs the ADE's Corporate Advisory Council with Coca-Cola Corporation's Vice President of Latino Affairs Rudy Beserra.

Bank of America is one of the world's largest financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small- and middle-market businesses and large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management and other financial and risk management products and services.

Dr. Massey, Chairman of the Salzburg Global Seminar and president emeritus of Atlanta's Morehouse College, has served on the Bank of America Board for more than a decade. He is also a director at McDonald's Corporation and a former director of Delta Air Lines Inc., Motorola Inc., BP plc., and is a member of the Board of Governors for University of Chicago's Argonne National Laboratory.

Prior to leading Morehouse College from August 1995 to June 2007, Mr. Massey was a director of the National Science Foundation, a governmental agency that supports research and education in mathematics, science and engineering. He also is a former vice president of research and professor of physics at the University of Chicago, dean of the college and professor of physics at Brown University and assistant professor of physics at the University of Illinois.

He also was provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of California, where he was responsible for academic and research planning, budget allocations and oversight of the three national laboratories the university manages for the U.S. Department of Energy: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Dr. Massey is a past chair of the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board and was a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. He has received more than 30 honorary degrees from institutions that include Yale University, Northwestern University, Amherst and Ohio State University, among others. Massey's involvement in education includes service as a member of the Gates Millennium Scholars Advisory Council and the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century.

Mr. Massey is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics in 1958 from Morehouse College, and earned his Master's and Doctorate in physics in 1966 from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
