Foodbuzz Surpasses 1 Million Food Blog Posts, Launches 'Today's Top 9' and Micro-Blogging Features

Posted on: Tuesday, 5 May 2009, 07:00 CDT

SAN FRANCISCO, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Foodbuzz announced today that it has surpassed 1 million food posts submitted by its community of food bloggers. It also announced the launch of two new features: "Today's Top 9," a daily filter to curate and showcase the best of this huge volume of content, and "Foodie Updates," a micro-blogging feature that allow users to post 140 character content snippets based on what they are eating, cooking or craving.

Foodbuzz is currently adding 4,000 posts per day from its extended community of blog sites and from the "hub" website foodbuzz.com. "We continue to be amazed by the quality and quantity of food-related posts generated by our community, and our goal is to aggregate, organize and curate these posts to better share this content with the world," says Ben Dehan, founder and CEO of Foodbuzz.

Today's Top 9 surfaces a set of the day's best posts using an algorithm based on the popularity of the content on foodbuzz.com, as well as the quality and history of the writer. Today's Top 9 joins "Daily Special," "24, 24, 24," and "Flavor of the Month" as the editorially-curated sections on foodbuzz.com. These sections and the growing database of posts together create a powerful search and discovery resource for general browsers seeking food and dining information. "For example, if you search for 'Kobe' on Google, most of your results will be about Kobe Bryant or Kobe, Japan. If you search on Foodbuzz, it will be 100% Kobe Beef!" said Mr. Dehan.

In addition to launching Today's Top 9, Foodbuzz also added Foodie Updates, a micro-blogging feature to enable users and bloggers to post real-time snippets about what food activities they are doing. "We're fueling the peer-to-peer food revolution, which is all about sharing and conversing around the topic we are most passionate about -- food," says Ryan Stern, Director of Publishing. "Foodie Updates leverages the spirit of real food, real people in real time," said Ms. Stern.
