EBay Announces New Fee System For Sellers

EBay is removing several upfront fees in an attempt to attract more sellers to the auction website.
EBay Inc. announced Tuesday that users can sell five items every 30 days without being charged the fees to list the merchandise. The fees are anywhere from 10 cents to $4. The change starts June 16.
Usher Lieberman, an EBay spokesman, said the alteration is intended to help consumers post items on the site.
It also reduces the risk for posting merchandise, which eBay hopes will encourage more sellers to find items around their home and closets and sell them online.
"We love that inventory and we want more of it," Lieberman said.
The preponderance of the 25 million people on eBay are sporadic sellers, and a lot of them will benefit from the alterations.
However, many others may end up with more fees, especially for things that run for $50 to $450.
For instance, if an item you are selling runs $300, you have to pay $20 under the new fee system. Also, you would be charged $3 to post the item and a final value fee of $11.82.
On the other hand, even it the item doesn’t sell, you are still charged $3, while you would be charged nothing under the new system.
Users have the option of using the old system for listing their first five items.
