Walden University Announces Up to $5 Million in Scholarships for Educators

More than 200 scholarships with values up to the cost of full tuition provide significant investment in education

MINNEAPOLIS, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Walden University's Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership is offering more than 200 scholarships with a total value of up to $5 million. Awards range from $1,000 to the cost of full tuition, and the scholarships can be applied to a variety of Walden's education degree programs.

The scholarships are supported by the Riley Education Fund, named in honor of Richard W. Riley, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. A leading advocate in advancing education as a national priority, Secretary Riley and Walden share a commitment to preparing teachers for leadership roles and providing them with the skills to make their classroom teaching better.

Riley College of Education and Leadership. "These scholarships will help educators to have greater access to education, enabling them to advance their knowledge to increase their effectiveness in their classrooms and their communities."

Walden's scholarships include the Riley Scholars, 100 full-tuition scholarships for highly deserving teachers to help them earn their master's degrees in education. The scholarships are part of a global commitment by Laureate International Universities (LIU) to increase access to higher education for people around the world that was announced at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Asia meeting in Hong Kong last December. Walden is the flagship online university in the LIU network of accredited campus-based and online universities world-wide.

As part of the Riley Education Fund, Walden is also proud to honor and recognize state teacher of the year award recipients nationwide by offering each of these outstanding educators a full tuition Teacher of the Year scholarship. Additional scholarships include: Educator Excellence Awards, providing 60 $1,000 scholarships; and Ann "Tunky" Riley Excellence in Education Scholarships, dedicated to the memory of Secretary Riley's wife, a teacher and passionate advocate for the quality of public education for all children.
