TI Introduces Industry's Lowest Power Dual, 12-Bit, 40MSPS DAC for Portable Communications Systems
Posted on: Friday, 12 September 2003, 06:00 CDT
TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today announced the industry's lowest power dual, 12-bit, 40MSPS (mega samples per second) digital-to-analog converter (DAC) from the company's Burr-Brown product line. Offering an unmatched combination of low power dissipation and wide dynamic range, the DAC2932 is optimized for use in the transmit section of communications systems, such as wireless PC modem cards, wireless network cards and handheld radios. The device is also well suited for a variety of portable test equipments, direct digital synthesis (DDS), portable medical instrumentation and arbitrary waveform generators (AWG). (See dataconverter.ti.com/sc03187 .)
The DAC2932 features 29mW power dissipation, 75dB spurious-free dynamic range, +2.7V to +3.3V single-supply operation and the integration of four 12-bit voltage-output DACs for signal path control. Further optimization can be achieved by lowering the output current with an adjustable full-scale range of 0.5mA to 2mA. A power-down mode reduces power dissipation to only 25uW.
"The DAC2932 provides customers with the lowest power per channel of any high-speed DAC in the 12-bit, 40MSPS segment," said Mark Stropoli, product marketing manager for TI's high-speed data converter products. "Additionally, the integration of four control DACs can reduce component count, simplify system control and lower overall cost."
The DAC2932 has a high-impedance differential current output, which allows for either a differential or single-ended analog signal interface. The device incorporates a temperature compensated 1.22V bandgap reference and also allows for additional flexibility of using an external reference. It is designed to operate with a single parallel data port.
Available Today
The DAC2932 is packaged in a TQFP-48 and is priced from $7.95 in 1,000 piece quantities (suggested resale pricing). The device is available now from TI and its authorized distributors.
