Developers and Sellers Collaborate to Share Application Ideas and Build Successful Businesses on eBay

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire/ — eBay Inc. (www.ebay.com) today extended an invitation to Web application developers and entrepreneurs to tap into the largest e-commerce opportunity on the Web by attending the annual eBay Developers Conference 2009 at eBay’s headquarters in San Jose from June 16 to 18.

This year’s keynote line-up for the eBay Developers Conference (eBay DevCon) features Silicon Valley visionaries and venture capitalists as well as eBay senior executives. Industry keynote speakers will include thought leaders such as John Hagel, co-chairman of the Silicon Valley-based Deloitte LLP Center for the Edge. Hagel will talk about the disruptive power of Application Programming Interface (API) platforms for developer growth and monetization on the Web in these challenging economic times. In addition, eBay has lined up a panel of venture capitalists who invest in e-commerce startups to discuss what they look for in their funding decisions and where to find the best opportunities for developers building e-commerce applications, widgets and services. The panel includes Ravi Mohan, managing director of Shasta Ventures; Sergio Monsalve, Principal at Norwest Venture Partners; and Rob Hayes, Partner at First Round Capital. This venture capitalist panel will be moderated by Charlene Li, founder of the Altimeter Group.

eBay CEO John Donahoe will welcome developers to eBay’s campus, and introduce Mark Carges, eBay’s chief technology officer and senior vice president of platform, who will unveil eBay’s new platform vision and encourage collaboration between developers and sellers on new ideas for search, mobile and e-commerce applications. “This open platform gives developers and sellers a single watering hole, so to speak, a place where they can meet, talk and exchange ideas directly. eBay developers can successfully create tools best suited to the need of sellers, giving both groups a more comfortable and flexible forum,” says Carges.

Conference sessions during eBay DevCon will feature basic to advanced technical and business sessions, as well as two hands-on, pre-conference workshops staffed by eBay product and technical support engineers. The sessions will help developers get started using the eBay API platform to build e-commerce tools, embed applications and extend their online businesses.

Individual sessions cover topics such as eBay’s product and platform roadmaps, search best practices, improving application design, monetizing applications with high-quality traffic and building compelling applications.

eBay Star Developer Awards will honor the best of the eBay developer community and the applications they build with the eBay API platform. Attendees will have a chance to exchange ideas and network with the winning developers and with eBay staff.

Registration for the eBay Developers Conference 2009 is $149 through May 31. Register now at www.ebay.com/devcon.
