Dell Seeks New Corporate Customers To Regain US Market Share

Posted on: Thursday, 21 May 2009, 14:58 CDT

In order to win back some of its U.S. market share, Dell Inc plans to aggressively pursue corporate customers, even as enterprise technology spending remains uncertain, Reuters reported.

Corporations in general are either cautiously investing or stuck in "hunker-down mode," according to Steve Schuckenbrock, president of Dell’s large enterprise business.

However, Schuckenbrock said Dell would continue to focus on acquiring new customers.

"I think we scaled back our attention to that over the last couple of years, particularly in the U.S, as we shifted resources for growth and other segments,” he told attendees at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York.

He acknowledged that Dell had lost share in large customers and that the company wouldn’t allow it to happen again.

IDC figures show that Hewlett-Packard, the world's largest PC maker, overtook Dell as the PC market share leader in the U.S. in the first quarter.

Dell may even expand into virtualization services for corporate clients, Schuckenbrock said. "We're certainly buyers now and you should expect to see us in that mode."

He also suggested there were attractive targets for all industry players.

"I don't know that it's 'do it now' because of inflation of price. I don't think we're as concerned about that as we are that there's a lot of consolidation in the industry," he added.
