Time Warner Telecom Delivers Internet and Native LAN Services to Law Firm Womble Carlyle

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Time Warner Telecom , a leading provider of local and regional optical broadband networks and services to businesses in North Carolina and 21 other states and 44 U.S. markets today announced that it has won a three-year contract and recently installed Ethernet Internet and Native LAN transport services to Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC (WCSR) of North Carolina.
WCSR is using Time Warner Telecom's Ethernet Internet and 10 Mbps Native LAN connections for point-to-point transmissions of legal files, video conferencing data and voice over IP communications between the firm's five North Carolina locations. These services increase WSCR's LAN capacity three-fold to 10 Mbps, enabling the law firm to capture significant cost savings from the consolidation of its storage area network (SAN) devices.
"With the increased capacity, we are able to implement projects not possible with our old wide area network model," said Alan George, WCSR senior network engineer and telecommunications manager. "Previously, each of our five North Carolina offices had its own MS Exchange server. Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN bandwidth and performance has allowed us to collapse that infrastructure to a single server at our headquarters facility. We're doing this across our WAN infrastructure which not only saves money on hardware, but on administration costs."
WCSR also benefited from a marked increase in network reliability and availability. "Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN service comes complete with built in redundancy to give us a higher level of availability," George said. "That makes it easier for us to build out our network and ultimately increases the Quality of Service we deliver to our end users. For example, the quality of our voice over IP and video conferencing service to our attorneys has been measurably improved. These are critical benefits because the firm relies on VoIP and video conferencing technology to maintain good relations with clients."
In addition to SAN device consolidation, George used Time Warner Telecom's Native LAN service to reduce communications links by 90 percent. "We replaced two T1 links at each of our North Carolina sites with a single high bandwidth link. Now, I manage fewer communication links, which reduces some of the management and administration of our WAN. Another bonus is that I no longer have the burden of load balancing. That makes my life much easier," stated George.
"We were able to deliver a rock-solid value proposition to Womble Carlyle," said Darin Cook, general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point. "Our Native LAN service enabled them to consolidate their SAN infrastructure and centralize their data backups to achieve significant savings. We were the only service provider who could deliver that. And we were able to guarantee service levels that are equal to or superior to other providers. Womble Carlyle also told us they liked the fact that they could turn up 100Mbps services when their business requires it down the road."
