INQ Mobile To Release New Twitter Phone

INQ Mobile has plans to release a new Twitter-based phone before the Christmas holiday shopping season, according to Reuters.
Frank Meehan, chief executive of INQ, which is known for creating the Facebook Phone, told Reuters that the phone would cost operators less than $140 with an Internet-based Twitter client.
"This can really help open up and drive Twitter use on mobile when usage becomes part of your data package like on the PC," he said.
The phone will be centered on using Internet connections to send 140-character Tweets via micro-blogging site Twitter.
Meehan said INQ has sold 700,000 phones since it first released the Skype phone in 2007.
"INQ Mobile was the first to offer an affordable handset that appeals to the connected generation that wants instant access to web services such as Facebook and Skype," Ben Wood, research director at consultancy CCS Insight, told Reuters.
"Other manufacturers are also jumping on the social mobile bandwagon and INQ Mobile needs to exploit its agility to stay one step ahead as it looks to ink deals with more operators," Wood said.
INQ says it plans to release an additional mobile phone model alongside the Twitter phone.
The firm’s INQ1, also known as the Facebook phone, was awarded best handset at the Mobile World Congress in February.
