Level 3 Increasing Presence in Central, Western New York; Committed to Providing Competitive Alternative for Businesses

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) today announced that it is expanding its operations in upstate New York. This initiative is designed to provide a world class customer experience for mid-market business customers throughout the area.

“We understand that the national economy is struggling right now and many companies are curbing or halting expansion plans. But upstate New York remains a vibrant business community and we believe it is an ideal time to expand and take advantage of business opportunities,” said James Edison, Level 3′s New York general manager. “Level 3 has a long history of serving enterprise customers in upstate New York with a broad range of products across an extensive fiber footprint – now we are taking our services to the next level to better serve our customers in central and western New York and provide a competitive alternative for mid-market businesses.”

This initiative will give mid-market businesses even greater access to Level 3′s robust voice, Internet and data services. The company continues to expand its portfolio of service offerings for enterprises to include an array of technologies, such as Ethernet, a flexible, scalable technology that provides cost-effective, high-bandwidth access for businesses. Level 3′s network reach and breadth of services coupled with a widely distributed sales force enables customers to Link Globally and Connect Locally.

In addition to expanding its service portfolio, Level 3 will continue to expand its fiber-optic footprint, which already passes nearly 3,000 business locations in upstate New York, including Buffalo, Syracuse and Rome/Utica, among others.

As part of this increased local focus, Level 3 is growing and realigning its workforce in upstate New York to create more intimacy with customers and enhance the customer experience. As such, the company will be expanding its sales and customer support employees in the area.

“Technological innovation will be the driving force behind the cultivation of a new economy in upstate New York and the key to creating quality jobs for years to come,” said New York State Assemblyman Mark Schroeder. “Level 3′s commitment to upstate New York’s business community is particularly significant because the company is bucking the economic trend by expanding in Buffalo and upstate New York during a time when many other companies are hunkering down and riding out the storm.”

Level 3 will be hosting an Open House event in Buffalo on June 5 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information on the event or to register, please visit www.level3.com/golocal/upstateny.
