Good Technology Brings Enterprise-Class Wireless Messaging to Microsoft Windows Mobile-Based Smartphones

Posted on: Monday, 11 July 2005, 06:00 CDT

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Good Technology, the leading provider of industry standards-based wireless handheld computing software and service, today announced GoodLink 4.5 for Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Smartphones. Adding to its breadth of handheld choices on the Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC, Palm and, in the future, Symbian-powered Nokia handhelds, Good will now support a greater range of line of business needs with a highly portable, cost-effective handheld platform. GoodLink 4.5 for Windows Mobile-based smartphones will initially be available on the Motorola MPx220 and Audiovox SMT5600 and supported through global carriers including Cingular Wireless in the U.S.

"The portability and price point of Windows Mobile-based Smartphones make them an ideal choice for our sales force, and we anticipate significantly increasing our number of GoodLink-equipped employees on this platform," said Lawrence Bowen, director of IT Operations, Priority Healthcare. "Our executives and sales professionals use GoodLink to enhance productivity in the field as they serve healthcare organizations, physicians, and patients with biopharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and support services. The strength of GoodLink combined with the flexibility of device choice Good provides is the reason why we are phasing out our former wireless email program and standardizing on Good."

"Our customers want access to their personal information anytime, anywhere, and Windows Mobile software provides that," said Chris Hill, group product manager, Windows Mobile & Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "GoodLink is a powerful complement to Windows Mobile, enabling business users to stay connected to their email and PIM applications, and view and edit Word, PowerPoint and Excel attachments while on the move."

Popular, Portable Platform Combines with Powerful Wireless Messaging

IDC forecasts 8.6 million Windows Mobile Smartphone users by year-end 2006. GoodLink 4.5 is tightly integrated with the popular Windows Mobile-based software for Smartphones, providing mobile employees with the same usability that GoodLink users on the Pocket PC and Palm platforms have come to love. Enterprises can now provide their mobile workforce with a two-way, wirelessly synchronized connection to their enterprise email, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes on an extremely portable, phone-centric handheld optimized for one-handed operation.

"The combination of the GoodLink wireless messaging and PIM system with the Motorola MPx220 world class feature phone gives business users constant, global access to their desktop and backend data," said Geoff Baird, director of Seamless Mobility Business Development, Motorola. "Together, we're enabling a new class of business users to reap the benefits of increased productivity and mobility."

GoodLink 4.5 Introduces Enhanced Usability

GoodLink 4.5 also introduces new productivity-enhancing features across the Smartphone, PocketPC and Treo platforms, including:

-- Call Sender -- instantly respond to an email with a phone call; -- vCard contacts -- save vCard contacts on the handheld for automatic wireless synchronization with Outlook Exchange; -- Work Offline -- use GoodLink in offline data mode while still being able to make and receive phone calls, for improved battery life and more cost-effective roaming; -- Two-line display option -- additional user-interface option for convenient viewing of email.

"The Windows Mobile-based Smartphone platform gives enterprises yet another compelling choice of industry standards-based handhelds to meet the needs of a critical mass of employees who want secure access to email and PIM on the go," said Rick Osterloh, vice president, products, Good Technology. "We recognize there is an enormous market interested in accessing email and data without sacrificing a mobile phone's primary purpose -- receiving and making phone calls. A broader audience of business users can now stay securely connected to email and other corporate data using GoodLink on a highly compact handheld."
