Lycos Announces the Consolidation of Its Global Brand Rights

Termination of License Agreements with Lycos Europe Announced

WALTHAM, Mass., June 11 /PRNewswire/ — LYCOS, Inc. (www.lycos.com), a leading Search and Internet portal and subsidiary of Daum Communications in Korea, today announced that it has reached agreement with Lycos Europe to regain use of its Trademarks and Brands for Lycos and Hotbot within the European territory. Prior to this agreement, Lycos Europe had an exclusive license to use those Trademarks and Brands within Europe dating back to 1997, when it was formed as part of a joint venture.

“Lycos and Lycos Europe have been operating independently to provide search services to consumers world-wide for many years, sometimes causing confusion in the marketplace. For a variety of reasons, it made sense at this time to consolidate Lycos’ collective assets and branding, especially in Europe, which is an important part of the global market,” said Jungwook Lim, Chief Executive Officer. “Lycos continues to have a loyal user base and we expect this consolidation to help revitalize and strengthen our search businesses within Europe.”
