Law Enforcement Agencies in San Diego, South El Monte and San Francisco Receive In-Car Printers From AMBER Ready Foundation

AMBER Ready Child Safety Tour Rolls into Sacramento Today

ROCKAWAY, N.J., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In association with the AMBER Ready 30-City Child Safety Tour, last week the AMBER Ready Foundation donated Jotto desk computer mounts and in-car printers to local law enforcement agencies in San Diego and San Francisco, as well as to the City of South El Monte (a suburb of Los Angeles). This new equipment will empower public safety officers to instantly print posters from their police patrol cars to assist in the immediate search for children reported missing. Used with the new AMBER Ready Program, officers will have the essential tools necessary to reduce the time needed to put a missing child on alert.

During last week's tour stops, AMBER Ready hosted a series of child safety events in each community, providing parents and child guardians with child and Internet safety tips, as well as training sessions for law enforcement and city officials on how to improve their response to missing child incidents. Featured speakers included AMBER Ready CEO and program creator, Kai D. Patterson; AMBER Ready Senior Vice President and the former Director of Public Safety for Bergen County, New Jersey, Frank Del Vecchio; and Internet safety expert, Suzanne Stanford.

Participants were also introduced to the AMBER Ready Program, which provides parents with the technology to create, store and lock their children's vital identity information, including photographs, in their cell phones. In the event the child should go missing, with the click of a button on the cell phone, the child's profile and picture can be sent immediately by law enforcement to police communications, patrol vehicles, other police agencies, the media and the AMBER Alert Network.

Published statistics show that 797,500 children under the age of 18 were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied by the U.S. Department of Justice, resulting in an average of 2,185 children reported missing each day. Every 40 seconds, a child is reported missing in the United States. What's more troubling is that 73% of violent crimes against children that are reported missing occur within the first three hours of their disappearance; 99% occur within the first four hours.

Moreover, according to the NCMEC, there are more than 100,000 registered sex offenders and child predators that are unaccounted for in the U.S. under Megan's Law. What's more alarming is the fact that if abducted by a stranger, the statistics reflect that a child will likely be murdered if not found within the first three hours of being abducted. If a child is not AMBER Ready, it may take up to four hours for a parent to confirm a child is missing and to collect essential identification information to supply police with what is necessary to launch a search. There is no longer any reason that parents should give predators intent on harming our kids this head start. When AMBER Ready, police can react instantaneously by transmitting an alert from a parent's wireless phone, thus improving the odds that their child will be found by authorities and safely returned home.
