Security Vulnerability Assessment Tool for Universities and Educational Institutions From TEEX

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 June 2009, 07:15 CDT

HOUSTON, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and Directive 7, TEEX partner and exclusive reseller of the Secure Assessment Software Tool, or SAST, announce the successful use of the SAST tool for educational campuses.

Frank Farmilette, with D7, notes that "the CSOs, Security Directors, Risk Managers, HS&E Professionals, and Facility Managers we spoke to wanted a tool that was easy enough for their on-site administrative people to work with but yet easy and comprehensive enough to be able to present to a Board of Directors." He continues, "The SAST tool makes identifying, tracking, scoring, and analyzing multiple assets at multiple facilities easy."

About the SAST Software: A Usable Security Vulnerability Assessment Tool

The web-based, encrypted SVA software is designed to help risk managers identify physical security system vulnerabilities and define and address shortfalls in planning, equipment and training. In addition, the software can construct a comprehensive mitigation strategy and generate easy-to-comprehend reports which clarify security issues for decision-makers.

The SAST was developed using TEEX instructors' years of extensive training experience in both private and public sector safety and security.

TEEX, a part of The Texas A&M University System, is world-renowned for its hands-on training and technical assistance.

Complex Reporting Made Simple:

The software allows safety, risk and security professionals a means to address multiple types of facilities and various risk levels through easy-to-input risk factors. It then places the corresponding analysis into an executive summary which is easily presented to executives who may not have an understanding of health, safety and environmental issues. The software is designed to handle as many as 10,000 assets.

Farmilette concludes, "The SAST can be used to make our universities and educational campuses more secure. It makes the areas that need to be addressed clear and gives the security and safety professional a real template in which to tell the story and address their needs." The tool is also affordable, starting at $4,995.00, compared to tens of thousands for the closet competitor.
