Infinite Power Solutions' INFINERGY(TM) Micro Power Module Wins Two Major Industry Awards

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 June 2009, 08:00 CDT

Receives Sensors' 'Best of Sensors Expo' Award and IDTechEx's Energy Harvesting Award For Enabling Perpetually Powered Micro-Electronic Devices

LITTLETON, Colo., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Power Solutions, Inc. (IPS), a maker of innovative solid-state, rechargeable, thin-film micro-energy storage devices, today announced that it has received two prestigious industry awards for its Micro Power Module (MPM) solution--Sensors Magazine's "Best of Sensors Expo 2009" silver award and the IDTechEx Energy Harvesting Award for "Best Technology Development." Unveiled last March, IPS' MPM--aptly named INFINERGY(TM) because it delivers continual power (when combined with ambient energy harvesting transducers) to micro-electronic devices such as embedded wireless sensors--is truly unlike any other rechargeable energy storage solution on the market.

The Best of Sensors Awards honored the most exciting new products on display at the Sensors Expo & Conference, which took place the week of June 8th in Chicago, Ill. Commenting on the selection of IPS' INFINERGY MPM for the silver award in the Sensors category, Melanie Martella, Sensors' executive editor and award judge, noted, "This is amazingly cool technology--it's so fundamentally useful. IPS' technology is agnostic when it comes to the energy harvesting method used. Breakthroughs such as those from IPS support the development of truly autonomous wireless sensor networks. We congratulate IPS for their innovation in bringing a cutting-edge solution to the sensors marketplace."

The IDTechEx Energy Harvesting Awards were handed out on June 3rd in concert with IDTechEx's Energy Harvesting Conference held in Cambridge, England. IPS was one of two companies that received an award, with INFINERGY being heralded as "Best Technology Development" in the area of energy harvesting. According to one of the judges, Professor Shashank of Virginia Tech, "This is a significant achievement. INFINERGY offers a solution that cuts across multiple scenarios and has the ability to become part of a varying range of devices."

INFINERGY MPMs feature two functional elements--near loss-less energy storage and highly efficient energy management electronics--all in a footprint about the size of two U.S. quarters, and only a few millimeters thick. For the energy storage element, IPS leverages its industry-leading THINERGY(TM) Micro-Energy Cells (MECs) to provide unmatched battery performance, cycle life and service lifetime. IPS' patent-pending, Passive Power Management Unit (PPMU(TM)) serves as the energy management element. The ultra-efficient PPMU provides a simplified electronic interface between the ambient energy harvesting transducer and the THINERGY MECs. More information on the INFINERGY MPM can be found in the press release issued from IPS on March 31, 2009.

Speaking on behalf of the company's recent accolades, Tim Bradow, IPS' vice president, technical marketing and business development, notes, "We are very pleased and honored to have received these two prestigious awards--all within just a week of each other. It speaks volumes to the growing confidence surrounding INFINERGY MPMs as a compelling energy management and storage solution that leverages ambient energy harvesting to make autonomous, perpetually powered wireless devices a practical reality. INFINERGY is truly unique in the world of micro-batteries and energy harvesting solutions as this micro-power solution is a safe, reusable and clean energy source that delivers a lifetime of power to micro-electronic systems without the prohibitive cost of battery replacement or maintenance."

INFINERGY MPMs began shipping in May 2009. Pricing and technical information is available upon request to qualified customers.
