Company to Provide Technical Assistance and Support Services for the Development and Deployment of Customized Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to provide software development and technical services in support of the agency's geographical information systems (GIS). The single-award contract has a six month base period of performance, four one-year options and a total contract value of more that $13 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in Washington, D.C.

The Farm Service Agency administers and manages farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster and loan programs for farmers and ranchers. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of the agricultural industry and to help farmers adjust production to meet demand. FSA service centers use GIS applications to determine program eligibility based on crop acreage or other land use information, and to help automate, streamline, and maximize services. Under the contract, SAIC will provide technical assistance and support services for the development and deployment of customized GIS applications.

"The integration of geospatial and business data is a key element in modernizing FSA's business operations and farm program delivery," said Tony Moraco, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We look forward to supporting this important customer and providing services that will help them work toward this important goal."
