Motorola Ojo(TM) Personal Video Phone Wins Taiwan's National Excellence Gold Medal

Posted on: Monday, 11 July 2005, 18:01 CDT

TREVOSE, Pa., July 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WorldGate Communications and Motorola today announced that the Motorola Ojo(TM) Personal Video Phone has won the Gold Medal in the coveted 2005 Taiwan National Symbol of Excellence awards. The National Excellence awards are issued annually to showcase the finest products produced in Taiwan, and honor their manufacturers. The competition is conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and issued by the China External Trade Development Council.

The award was personally presented by President Chen Shui-bian to Mototech Inc., WorldGate's manufacturing partner. The Motorola Ojo Personal Video Phone outclassed 746 other superb "Made in Taiwan" products in the competition, of which only six earned the prestigious Gold Medal.

"We're grateful that Ojo has been recognized as one of the best products manufactured in Taiwan," says Hal Krisbergh, Chairman and CEO of WorldGate Communications. "Ojo is truly a global product for global communications. And this prominent award confirms what we have long said: nothing else comes close to the Motorola Ojo Personal Video Phone experience, which is redefining how the world communicates in the broadband age."

Capturing the Symbol of Excellence award is the latest in a series of exciting international awards and achievements for Ojo, which is distributed by Motorola and available at retail outlets nationwide. The Motorola Ojo Personal Video Phone is the world's first personal video phone to let consumers experience natural, true-to-life, face-to-face video communication. Winner of the 2005 CES "Best of Innovations in Design and Engineering Award," Ojo was also the first personal video phone to make satellite, transcontinental, and international video phone calls using industry-standard H.264 technology. And when President George W. Bush used Ojo to place a state- to-state video phone call, it marked the first such call by a sitting U.S. President.

"We're thrilled to share this exciting moment in our history with WorldGate," says Michael Yu, Head of the Product Division at Mototech Inc. "WorldGate is an excellent partner, and has been fully committed to maintaining the highest quality and design standards for Ojo. This award is a splendid way to recognize the fruits of our work together."
