A10 Networks Helps University Simplify Identity Management for Wireless Network Access

Posted on: Monday, 22 June 2009, 08:00 CDT

A10's ID Series Platform Integrates Identity Tracking, RADIUS and Authenticated DHCP in a Single Appliance

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- A10 Networks(R) today announced Kyungpook National University, located in the Republic of Korea, with 20,000 students selected A10's ID Series network identity management appliances to integrate identity tracking, RADIUS and authenticated DHCP in a single platform for its wireless infrastructure. Kyungpook National University experiences a large amount of wireless traffic, with 20% to 30% of its students using the wireless network each day. To streamline and upgrade its existing infrastructure, Kyungpook National University wanted to use old WEP wireless APs and new 802.1x wireless APs, and required an authentication solution for wireless simplification, security and visibility.

A10's ID Series provides Kyungpook National University with a complete wireless authentication solution with a rich feature set in a single appliance with all-inclusive pricing, versus a multiple box or multiple license approach. Three primary factors made ID Series lead the pack:

  • Authenticated DHCP: Wireless identity-based access on demand is possible without the need for manual registration.
  • ID Based Access: Includes a customizable Web portal for users to authenticate to once their machine connects, ensuring real-time accurate user authentication takes place from a single source.
  • Identity Tracking: The unique IP-to-ID identity tracking feature allows visibility into "who" is doing "what" and "when" on the network, instantly.

"We needed specific features to update our wireless infrastructure and were pleased to find the unique feature mix in a simple to deploy and cost effective solution with A10's ID Series," said Dong-Ji Bang, team manager of the Information Foundation Team for Kyungpook National University. "ID Series has improved the service we offer students as well as significantly decreasing the amount of administrative work required on an ongoing basis."

To further extend the return on investment (ROI), additional ID Series core module components available to Kyungpook National University at no additional charge also include:

  • Guest Web Portal for Guest Users' Password Management: empowers administrators to manage passwords of guest users effectively.
  • Enterprise RADIUS Authentication Server: allows authentication to multiple backend data stores for authentication consolidation.
  • Identity Tracking with IP-to-ID: resolves IP or MAC addresses to user identity instantly, aiding resolution of network and security issues.

"We are proud to deliver an easy-to-use and cost-effective identity and user management system for Kyungpook National University," said Lee Chen, founder and CEO for A10 Networks. "ID Series enables customers in academic markets to increase efficiency through network simplification, security and visibility."

ID Series: Network Identity Management

ID Series is the industry's only network identity management appliance delivering integrated features that resolve IP addresses to user identity (IP-to-ID) instantly, simplify user password management with the User Self Service Web Portal, centralize user account management, and enhance RADIUS authentication and access control. The ID Series IP-to-ID Service has earned the company numerous awards, enterprise deployments and technical partnerships. A10 Networks markets ID Series through resellers, with technical partners such as RSA (a division of EMC) and the IP-to-ID Enabled partnerships with technical partners such as TippingPoint, Lancope, WildPackets, RetiCorp and FireScope.
