SMC's TigerStack II 10/100/1000 Stackable Managed Switches Will Be Used in the Management / Installation Network of the Data-Intensive Computing System that will Support UC San Diego and UC Researchers
Designed collaboratively with University researchers and computing specialists at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, Triton will incorporate SMC's TigerStack(TM) II 10/100/1000 Stackable Managed Switches with four Gigabit combo ports and two 10G uplinks (SMC8848M) into the installation and management network.
"We are very excited to be selected as a key vendor for this high-performance computing environment as it speaks to the key benefits of performance, reliability, functionality, and value that have come to define our high-end enterprise-class switches in the government, education and business sectors," explained
About the TigerStack II 10/100/1000 Managed Switches (SMC8824M / SMC8848M)
The TigerStack II 10/100/1000 Managed Switches (SMC8824M and SMC8848M) are high-performance stackable switches that deliver scalability, wire-speed Gigabit performance, high-availability, 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, and redundant power options for small- and medium-sized businesses. The performance stacking enlists technology that pushes switch to switch communication up to 24GB thereby ensuring efficient delivery of data in the most stressed environments.
The SMC8824M and SMC8848M are equipped with 24 or 48 copper Gigabit ports (respectively) and four combo SFP ports which support either copper links or SFP adapters for connection to fiber-based Gigabit media and deliver a switching capacity of up to 176 Gbps. In addition to two high-performance stacking connectors, two 10G modules slots on the rear of the switch support a variety of connector technologies including XFP 10G connections to provide high-bandwidth connectivity to the core of a network.
The SMC8824M and SMC8848M, which incorporate a comprehensive set of features including layer 3 routing support, redundant power option to protect against primary power failure, Quality of Service, and security features including 802.1x, RADIUS and ACLs, are backed by a 3-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, and are available worldwide via authorized SMC distributors and value-added resellers.
