Ansca(TM) Unveils Its Corona(TM) Mobile Software Solution for Designers, Engineers and Web Developers

Corona Unlocks the Imagination of Creative Professionals to Build Native iPhone Applications

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Ansca Inc., a new startup led by former Adobe mobile software veterans Carlos Icaza and Walter Luh, today announced the launch of its early adopter program for Corona, a software solution for creating mobile applications for the iPhone.

Corona enables designers, engineers, and developers familiar with popular web-scripting languages to quickly create engaging mobile applications. Corona removes technical barriers to mobile software development, allowing designers to play a central role in building creative, captivating user experiences. Corona dramatically decreases the volume and difficulty of learning and writing application code for iPhone applications, reducing development time and cost by up to 90 percent. Today, several Ansca-powered applications created by seed users of Corona are already on the App Store.

"For too long mobile application development has been reserved for seasoned engineers with mobile expertise. We are going to drastically change the way engineers, Web developers, and designers think about iPhone application development," said Carlos Icaza, president and CEO of Ansca. "Our guiding principle has been to empower people to design, develop, and distribute native applications for the iPhone. Our early customers are seeing significant benefits in creating iPhone applications using our technology."

Today, Ansca is making the early adopter version of the Corona Software Development Kit (SDK) available for download. Registered users will be able to create basic applications optimized for the iPhone in less than a week.

"We are impressed with the Ansca team, they are quick to respond to our needs and we have total trust in the direction of their product," said Evan Kirchhoff, president of Comrade Software, a company specializing in Flash development. "With Corona, our development time to create mobile applications is much shorter than working with the native iPhone SDK. On our current projects, primary coding time has been reduced from weeks to days. Corona really makes it easy for us and we are now getting our first Corona-based game out the door."

Ansca CTO Walter Luh will demonstrate the product in the company's first public address at the HOW Conference in Austin, Texas on Friday, June 26th at 9 a.m. CST on the topic of "iPhone Development for Designers." He will also discuss the company's roadmap, including version 1.0 of the software, which has capabilities geared towards advanced developers and engineers making demanding, cutting-edge applications.

"Corona unlocks the creative potential of the iPhone. A developer can create visually rich and engaging native iPhone applications much more quickly, taking full advantage of the iPhone's unique capabilities such as accelerometer support and OpenGL-ES for graphics acceleration," said Luh. "Designers, who were previously isolated from the development process, are now able to express their creativity on the mobile canvas for the first time. Corona is enabling a new level of efficiency for developers, while also expanding the pool for non-traditional mobile developers."

"Corona allowed us to focus on the creative assets, user experience and interactivity of our iPhone applications by dramatically reducing the time, expense, and learning curve required to do the programming," said Joseph DeSetto, co-founder of reallyMedia and author of The Business of Design. "Using Corona, we've already completed two applications that are currently for sale on the App Store; a learning game for children called tapDots and Box of Sox, a fast paced matching game. Corona makes iPhone application development a process that's more approachable for designers and artists using talents we already have."
