US Airways, America West Airlines Briefs

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 July 2005, 00:00 CDT

Jul. 12--NEW FLIGHTS TO HAWAII: America West Airlines on Monday unveiled new service to Hawaii, which would give Charlotte fliers more one-stop connections to the islands after the airline merges with US Airways.

Starting Dec. 16, America West plans to offer daily nonstop flights to Oahu and Maui from its Phoenix hub. In March, it will add nonstops to the islands of Hawaii and Kauai. The new service will be aboard 190-seat Boeing 757s.

Flights will leave Phoenix in the late morning and arrive in Hawaii mid-afternoon, nearly seven hours later. They return overnight.

WOOING WEB USERS: US Airways has started guaranteeing that its Web site offers the lowest fares for US Airways flights.

Fliers who book a US Airways flight and, on the same day as buying the ticket, find a cheaper fare offered on the same flight, will receive a refund on the difference in price plus a $50 travel voucher.

The move is an attempt to reclaim business from other Web sites that sell airline tickets.

PARKING LOTS RENAMED: Charlotte/Douglas International Airport has renamed some of its parking lots.

Satellite 1 and Satellite 2 are now known as "Long Term 1" and "Long Term 2" on signs and shuttle buses. The lots are located near the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and Little Rock Road. Tony Mecia

CHIEF: PRETZELS ARE PEANUTS: Is the planned removal of pretzels aboard US Airways flights small potatoes?

US Airways CEO Bruce Lakefield thinks so.

Asked by the Observer last week what he thought about the media attention on pretzels, Lakefield rolled his eyes and said the issue is "nickle-and-dime B.S." A more serious issue is high fuel costs, he said.
