NFR Security's Sentivist Passes Rigorous Testing to Receive ''NSS Approved'' Award
Posted on: Tuesday, 12 July 2005, 09:00 CDT
NFR Security, Inc., the leader in Real-Time Threat Protection(TM), today announced that its Sentivist intrusion prevention system has earned the highly coveted "NSS Approved" award after passing the rigorous testing regimen of The NSS Group. One of the world's foremost independent security testing facilities, The NSS Group tested Sentivist for performance, reliability, security accuracy and usability, and concluded that Sentivist should be on the shortlist for all businesses evaluating intrusion prevention systems (IPS).
Speaking about just one of the more than 800 tests run during the rigorous test cycle, Bob Walder, Director of the NSS Group said "During eight hours of extended attacks, made up of millions of exploits mixed with genuine traffic, NFR Security's Sentivist Smart Sensor 100C continued to block 100 percent of attack traffic, while passing 100 percent of legitimate traffic." The NSS Group report further notes that the "extremely flexible and powerful" NFR Sentivist "performed consistently and reliably throughout our tests."
The test highlighted several additional strengths of Sentivist, including performance, accuracy, flexibility and policy management, which are also key network security requirements and buying criteria today. The NSS report states:
-- Performance at all levels of our load tests was impeccable, with 100 percent of attacks being detected and blocked under all load conditions. We would happily confirm NFR's 100 Mbps rating for this device, and would deem it conservative in most normal networks.
-- New signatures can be written from scratch and the entire NFR signature library is open to inspection and modification. This makes NFR Sentivist one of the most extensible and flexible IDS/IPS systems on the market.
-- Sentivist offers one of the most powerful and flexible policy management capabilities on the market today. This system makes policy deployment a snap in even the largest installations.
-- The constantly scrolling graphical nature of this eye-catching display (Sentivist Attack Timeline) makes it incredibly useful for high-level, immediate insight into what is happening on the network.
-- Sentivist's annotation and correlation are the types of features which most "new" IPS vendors do not include. However, we think these are features worth having.
"NFR Security has a long history of providing best-of-breed network security solutions to our enterprise and SMB customers," stated Andre Yee, president and CEO of NFR Security. "This NSS test is technical validation that our Sentivist intrusion prevention solution continues to deliver on that trend by enabling customers to improve the security of their networks, as well as increasing their ability to manage the ever-more complex network environment."
The "NSS Approved" title is only awarded to those products which successfully complete all of the exhaustive tests to the required standard as specified in the appropriate testing criteria. All "NSS Approved" appliances guarantee customers that the device will not significantly impact network/host performance, cause network/host crashes or otherwise block legitimate traffic. The complete IPS Group Test report will be published on the NSS Group Web site at www.nss.co.uk/ips
