Kentrox Q-Series QoS Access Routers Rated Compliant With Avaya IP Telephony Solution for Small and Medium Businesses; Customers Benefit From Reliable, Interoperable Quality-of-Service Capabilities

Kentrox today announced that its Q-Series(TM) Quality-of-Service (QoS) routers are rated interoperable with IP telephony solutions for small and medium businesses from Avaya (NYSE:AV), a leading global provider of business communications applications, services and systems.
The Kentrox solution is now compliance-tested for interoperability with Avaya IP Office, an all-in-one voice and data solution specifically designed to support small firms and the branch office applications of larger organizations. The advanced, Quality-of-Service (QoS) capabilities integrated into the Kentrox Q-Series router automatically recognize and prioritize IP Office voice traffic as it travels across a wide area network. By prioritizing voice applications over less delay-sensitive data applications, the router protects phone calls from quality degradation.
Kentrox is a member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program -- an initiative to serve customer needs by developing, marketing and selling innovative third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a company's investment in its network. As a member of the program, Kentrox is eligible to submit products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab in Lincroft, N.J. A team of Avaya engineers develops a comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya compliant. Doing so ensures businesses can confidently add best-in-breed capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure -- speeding deployment of new intelligent communications applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation costs.
"By offering compliance testing to the many innovative companies who are members of our DeveloperConnection program, Avaya promotes interoperable solutions that are easier and more cost-effective for companies to implement within their existing multivendor networks," said Eric Rossman, director, Avaya DeveloperConnection program. "That means we're expanding the options businesses have for solving their most complex challenges and are helping them derive greater value from their communication infrastructure."
"Kentrox is proud to be a valuable Avaya DeveloperConnection partner for converged business solutions," commented Dan Murray, VP of marketing, Kentrox. "We feel that Avaya's customers and value-added resellers will appreciate and capitalize on the easy install and setup the Q-Series offers and benefit from the advanced Quality-of-Service features it delivers."
According to Chris Maag, network administrator, Compro, an Avaya dealer, "We needed a third party Quality-of-Service solution to complement Avaya IP Office, and the Kentrox Q-Series QoS product fits the bill perfectly. Together, these products provide an ideal solution for converged IP networking."
Unlike other solutions, Q-Series access routers ship with default settings that automatically detect and provide precedence to Avaya IP Office voice traffic. The Q-Series also integrates an intuitive graphical user interface that makes setup faster and easier for less experienced installers. Graphical reports help users identify performance problems and modify QoS policies to resolve networking issues.
In addition to providing industry-leading QoS capabilities, Kentrox Q-Series routers integrate a number of features to provide all-in-one networking capabilities to small and medium businesses. A Q-Series router offers the functions of a business-class IP router, virtual private network (VPN) appliance, firewall, wide area network (WAN) access device and Ethernet switch in a single, affordable device. Cost-conscious companies benefit from integrating six devices into a single unit with reduced capital outlay and management and maintenance expenses over the life of the product.
Pat Laurie, product manager at Source, Inc., an Avaya dealer, notes, "You get four times the functions for half the price of other products on the market. And you don't have to deal with a bunch of software add-ons to get the features you need. Everything's already in the box."
