myPhoneCompany to Provide Enhanced 911 Services to Its VoIP Customers

myPhoneCompany.com, a division of Sipmedia LLC, one of the nation's most established VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) providers, has announced, effective immediately, the firm can provide Enhanced 911 (or E-911) services to its customers in more than 2,200 rate centers serving more than 180 million people in the U.S.
E-911 allows emergency service operators to identify the physical location and phone number of the caller, which is an important safety aspect if the caller is unable to speak to the emergency operator or the call gets disconnected. myPhoneCompany provisions E-911 services using the underlying E-911 infrastructure of Level 3 Communications, a wholesale VoIP provider that currently offers E-911 services that encompass approximately 66 percent of all U.S. households.

The rapid increase in VoIP subscribers has highlighted concerns about access to emergency services. Unlike traditional telephone service providers, many of the largest VoIP companies today are not E-911 compliant and may have a difficult time accomplishing this requirement under the FCC's timeframe.
