Universal Forms Partnership With TuneCore

Universal Music Group Distribution announced a new partnership with digital music distribution firm TuneCore in an effort to sign new independent artists.

TuneCore’s service allows unsigned musicians to distribute their songs to iTunes and Amazon.com’s marketplace.

Under the new alliance, TuneCore will host Web portals for Universal’s labels and partner labels and artists.

Additionally, Universal has agreed to provide TuneCore’s artists with services such as licensing opportunities and professional audio mastering.

And Guitar Center, a TuneCore strategic partner, will market Universal and TuneCore CDs at its entire chain of more than 200 retail stores across the US.

"Our agreement with TuneCore highlights UMGD's commitment to a strong sales philosophy and long-term artist development," said Jim Urie, President and CEO of Universal.

"UMGD is uniquely positioned to provide the most flexible and comprehensive digital and physical distribution, sales and marketing services in the industry, all of which results in more profitable opportunities for both our labels and our artists."
