State Education Officials, Verizon New England President to Announce Partnership and $50,000 in Grants to Improve Student Achievement

WARWICK, R.I., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- State education officials and Verizon New England President Donna Cupelo will announce on Monday (July 13) a unique educational partnership between the state and the company with a $25,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation, and will also announce the five Rhode Island public schools that will receive grants totaling an additional $25,000. The grants are being awarded to educators who are using Verizon's innovative Thinkfinity.org online education tool in the classroom.

BACKGROUND: The two state educational organizations, which have been designated as the Verizon Foundation's Thinkfinity state education partner, will collaborate to provide professional-development opportunities to classroom teachers statewide to improve student achievement through on-site and online training, and create a statewide network of Thinkfinity trainers.
