VirnetX Supports Cybersecurity Act Call for Secure Domain Name Addressing System

Posted on: Monday, 13 July 2009, 06:30 CDT

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VirnetX Holding Corporation (NYSE Amex: VHC), an innovative secure real-time communications and collaboration technology company, today announced its support of Senate Bill 773: Cybersecurity Act of 2009, specifically pertaining to the development of a "Secure Domain Name Addressing System." VirnetX's patent portfolio, including its recent U.S. patent #7,418,504, uses Secure Domain Names with its proprietary Secure Domain Name Registry to provide Internet security.

The proposed Cybersecurity Act, Section 9, calls for: Within 3 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information shall develop a strategy to implement a secure domain name addressing system.

"We applaud the Federal Government for recognizing the importance of a Secure Domain Name Addressing System," said Kendall Larsen president and CEO of VirnetX. "The current Domain Name System, the basis by which we find and communicate with people or companies over the Internet, is broken and wide open to cyberattacks. The current methods for dealing with these attacks are temporary fixes at best. Until we secure the Internet at a foundational level, people and businesses will be vulnerable and preyed upon. Our patented technology derived from a U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY initiative, provides the necessary foundational measures to make the Internet a safe and trusted environment."

VirnetX has developed its unique and patented technology for locating and securely communicating over the Internet using Secure Domain Names issued by its proprietary Secure Domain Name Registry, a key element of any Secure Domain Name Addressing System. This technology can be built into network infrastructure, current operating systems or silicon chips developed for any type of Internet communications device like smartphones, laptops or PDAs. Customers can obtain this technology by purchasing an SDK developer license or a patent license. VirnetX is developing its own secure peer-to-peer network using its GABRIEL Connection Technology, which it plans to make available for public Beta testing in the later part of 2009.

Senate Bill 773: Cybersecurity Act of 2009, was introduced April 1, 2009, sponsored by Sen. John Rockefeller, to ensure the continued free flow of commerce within the United States and with its global trading partners through secure cyber communications, to provide for the continued development and exploitation of the Internet and intranet communications for such purposes, to provide for the development of a cadre of information technology specialists to improve and maintain effective cybersecurity defenses against disruption, and for other purposes.
