Hitachi Group Deploys CA SiteMinder Worldwide as Foundation of Web Security Management System

Posted on: Wednesday, 15 July 2009, 08:00 CDT

ISLANDIA, N.Y., July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA, Inc.(Nasdaq: CA) today announced that all Hitachi Group companies are using CA SiteMinder on a global scale as part of a project to establish one integrated logon system for the entire Hitachi Group.

Established under Hitachi, Ltd., Japan's largest integrated electronics manufacturer which celebrates 100 years in business next year, the Hitachi Group employs a 400,000-strong workforce throughout 940 subsidiaries in 70 countries and started developing an integrated authentication infrastructure in 2002.

The development process involved implementation of user-ID and access management systems to reduce risk of unauthorized access. The original system required separate IDs and passwords to access individual systems, giving rise to issues of information security and user convenience. To correct this challenge, Hitachi selected CA's Web access management solution, CA SiteMinder, to play a pivotal role in the Group's integrated authentication infrastructure with the goal of raising security standards and streamlining operations.

CA SiteMinder is a centralized Web access management system that enables user authentication, along with single sign-on, policy-based authorization, identity federation, and centralized auditing of access to web applications and portals.

Hitachi sought an access management solution that could be implemented by every company in the Group. Hitachi required a solution that met global industry standards, held a track record for supporting large-scale systems, was highly scalable, and that came with vendor global post-sales support.

"CA SiteMinder enforces security that so far comprises several policies from a number of companies and systems, which has ultimately raised the level of security for the Hitachi Group as a whole," said Naoshi Abe, Security Management Department Manager of the Hitachi, Ltd. e-Platform Promotion Office. "CA SiteMinder's single sign-on feature dramatically increases usability and eliminates the cost of managing multiple IDs and passwords. The result is greater user productivity, a reduction in administrative costs and a boost in IT productivity for the entire Hitachi Group."
