Technisource Survey: IT Employee Confidence Index Rebounds in Second Quarter of 2009

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The IT Employee Confidence Index increased 6.1 points to 45.8 in the second quarter of 2009, according to a recent survey commissioned by Technisource((R)), the technology placement division of Spherion Corporation. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive((R)), indicates that overall confidence levels among IT workers surveyed rebounded in the second quarter as a result of fewer workers believing the economy is getting weaker, and more workers reporting confidence in their personal employment situation.
Results from the IT Employment Report:
- Forty-eight percent of technology workers believe the economy is getting weaker, down 18 percentage points from the first quarter of 2009.
- More technology workers are confident in their ability to find a new job. Specifically, 40 percent versus 37 percent in the previous quarter.
- Sixty-four percent of workers are confident in the future of their current employers, compared to 58 percent in the first quarter of 2009.
"After two consecutive quarters of decline in our IT Employee Confidence Index, it is a pleasant surprise to see a rebound in overall optimism in the second quarter of 2009. In fact, our latest Index is only 0.1 point below what was registered one year ago," said Michael Winwood, president of Technisource. "This jump from the first quarter of 2009 may suggest that technology workers are seeing more signs of economic progress. That said, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, coupled with the fact that cost-cutting initiatives are still of highest priority among businesses. In addition, as IT leadership continues to be faced with shrinking budgets and headcount, many are challenged with preserving operational continuity while fueling business growth. We are advising our clients to focus on efficiencies and develop a proactive talent management strategy now in order to ensure a healthy --and competitive-- IT organization."
