Escondido Charter High School Welcomes Inaugural Class for its New Academy of Applied Technologies (AATech)

SAN DIEGO, July 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Escondido Charter High School (ECHS) today announced the inaugural class for its new Academy of Applied Technologies (AATech) will begin participation in the program on August 10. AATech is a career-oriented educational offering for motivated high school students who thrive in a non-conventional learning environment. Courses are offered in college-style schedule through ECHS's Individualized Learning Program (ILP) with the opportunity for students to earn college credit.

Students attending AATech will take part in a combination of independent study, digital lessons and hands-on lab instruction. Teaching labs include on-campus TV and Radio Stations, a fully-equipped IT Center and a state-of-the-art Multimedia Room. AATech is centered on five industry-focused areas of emphasis, including:

  • Entertainment Technology
  • Digital Design & Marketing
  • Information Technology
  • Power Production & Transmission
  • Public Safety with an emphasis on police and fire skills and training

Numerous local organizations and businesses, each aligned with the areas of emphasis, are involved in connecting AATech students with real-world industry experience, including the AIS - American Information Systems, AVI Systems, BizVid, City of Escondido, Duke Energy, Escondido Workforce Roundtable, Escondido Fire, Escondido Police, Palomar College, Roger Hedgecock Show, SDG&E, SoCal Edison, TechAssist and wsRadio.

AATech is still accepting applications for 2009 enrollment. There are no waiting lists for enrollment in AATech or other ILP programs offered by Escondido Charter High School. Escondido Charter High School will welcome the AATech inaugural class and unveil the Academy's facilities at a Grand Opening event today, Friday, July 24, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the American Spirit Theater located on the ECHS campus at 1868 East Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92027. Local government officials participating in the event include Senator Mark Wyland, Assemblyman Martin Garrick and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher. The event is open to the media as well as local businesses interested in learning more about how to become an industry partner to support the five AATech industry segments. Media and guests will have the opportunity to tour the teaching labs and experience a demo of the new digital lesson delivery system.
