Initiate Chief Scientist Scott Schumacher to Serve on CAIMR's Research Planning Committee
WASHINGTON, July 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Center for Applied Identity Management Research (CAIMR), a public-private partnership dedicated to solving society's most critical identity management challenges through applied research, today announced that Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in multi-domain master data management (MDM) solutions that enable information sharing and improve data quality, has joined the organization at the Associate Partner level. Scott Schumacher, Chief Scientist at Initiate, will serve on CAIMR's Research Planning Committee, providing valuable insight into the organization's critical identity management research and publications.
Launched in October 2008, CAIMR is a trusted public-private partnership of cross-disciplinary experts focused on conducting applied research that addresses current and future identity management challenges in order to provide real-world solutions. Those societal challenges include cyber crime, identity theft and fraud, attacks on critical infrastructure systems, data breaches, financial crimes and more, that impact individuals, public safety, commerce, government and national security. CAIMR will identify these key identity management challenges and the existing gaps in knowledge surrounding them in order to provide the much-needed applied research to properly address them.
"Initiate's membership enhances CAIMR's goal of including all sectors of society by its innovative approach to identity management in the healthcare, government and enterprise arena," said Dr. Gary R. Gordon, Executive Director of CAIMR. "We are particularly pleased that Scott, with his extensive background in mathematics and master data management software, will significantly augment the knowledge and capabilities within our research areas."
At the Associate Partner level, Initiate will participate in CAIMR's research planning committees and provide peer review of the organization's research reports and publications. Schumacher is a member of CAIMR's Research Planning Committee which is charged with defining the organization's research agenda, prioritizing research projects, identifying sources of data and assisting in procuring project funding.
"Organizations across industries including healthcare, government, banking, manufacturing, retail and more have invested heavily in enterprise software applications as they seek greater operational efficiency. These applications have led to a proliferation of data about people, places and things, which are now fragmented and can be insecure," said Schumacher. "MDM helps organizations make sense out of mountains of data. We partnered with CAIMR because we believe its unique, cross-disciplined approach of combining industry, academia and government to address critical identity management issues will help to accelerate real change in these industries."
Schumacher has more than 25 years of industry experience and since November 2000 has served as Initiate's senior vice president and chief scientist. Currently he is responsible for development of the statistical linking algorithms used in Initiate's MDM software. From May 1985 to November 2000, Schumacher held various positions at XonTech, Inc., which is now a part of Northrop Grumman, including technical analyst, principal analyst, program manager and division scientist. He was responsible for the design, development and testing of advanced remote-sensing systems and classified Department of Defense/Intelligence Community applications. Schumacher holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from University of California, Los Angeles, where he has also served as an associate professor.
Other CAIMR membership levels include Partners and Alliance Partners. For more information on joining CAIMR, please visit: http://caimr.indiana.edu/contact.html
