Spotify To Release iPhone Application
Spotify, a Swedish music streaming service, announced plans to launch its first mobile application in the next few weeks, BBC News reported.
Apple’s iTunes App Store is set to issue its approval for the application soon, and Spotify’s service would then be available for users to download onto iPhones.
With its easy-to-use interface and its comprehensive, free library of millions of songs, some have called Spotify an "iTunes killer".
Others see it as a more realistic alternative to piracy and celebrate it as a possible savior to the music industry.
Users of the app can search new music and even temporarily store playlists that can be accessed on their phone even when they have no connection.
Users can also stream playlists from their iPhone.
The application will be free, but Spotify said users must have a premium subscription of the service to use it. Premium users can run Spotify on their computers without adverts.
After launching last year, Spotify now has more than two million users in the UK, and more than six million across Europe.
The service is expected to launch in the United States by the end of the year.
A Spotify application for mobile phones running Google’s Android software is also expected in the near future, the company said.
