EqualLogic Achieves 500 Customer Milestone, Demonstrating Leadership In iSCSI Storage Market

Posted on: Wednesday, 13 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

EqualLogic Ranked Among Top Three iSCSI Leaders in Annual Storage Market Forecast

EqualLogic(R), a leading provider of enterprise-class iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions, today announced that its PS Series arrays have been deployed by more than 500 customers in multiple industries worldwide in just two years of shipping. The 500 customer milestone coincides with the publication of IDC's "Worldwide Disk Storage Systems 2005-2009 Market Forecast and Analysis"(1) report, which ranks EqualLogic among the top three leaders of the rapidly growing iSCSI SAN market.

Based on 2004 iSCSI systems revenue, the IDC report places EqualLogic third after Network Appliance and EMC, crediting EqualLogic with an 11 percent share of the market and revealing a wide margin between the top three and the rest of the field. The other players in the market each accounted for two or less percent of total iSCSI SAN market revenue.

"There is a considerable amount of pent-up demand for IP-based storage. This is particularly true with midrange companies buying their first SAN," said Robert Gray, research vice president at IDC. "EqualLogic, with its innovative products and low costs, is well positioned to benefit as iSCSI storage takes off."

EqualLogic customers are discovering the reliability and flexibility of EqualLogic's IP SAN solution not only to consolidate storage and operate servers more effectively, but also to simplify backup and implement comprehensive disaster recovery with the PS array's advanced storage management features. EqualLogic provides a robust, full-featured SAN that delivers the same enterprise-class performance, reliability and sophisticated management features as midrange Fibre Channel systems - but without the high cost of operation.

"EqualLogic has introduced a revolutionary new way to consolidate and manage storage in an easy-to-use and automated system that has won the hearts and minds of hundreds of customers worldwide, fueling our growth of more than 100 new customers per quarter," said Don Bulens, president and CEO of EqualLogic. "We are eliminating the typical burdens of storage administration, while delivering the integrity and reliability that business-critical IT operations demand."

A recent survey of EqualLogic customers indicates a 98 percent satisfaction rate, with 96 percent of customers stating that they would highly recommend EqualLogic solutions to others. The survey also reports that customers choose the PS Series SAN solution because it offers everything you need to consolidate and protect data; delivers excellent performance and reliability; and is easy to set up, maintain, and scale.

EqualLogic continues to expand its sales channel worldwide as integrators and VARs specializing in server and storage solutions see more demand for SANs in the midrange market. EqualLogic channel partners recognize that the PS Series delivers what customers really need: a reliable, self-managing, scalable pool of storage that responds dynamically to business needs.

"iSCSI has quickly proven to be a viable and attractive alternative to Fibre Channel in both SMB and enterprise storage environments," said Ashby Lincoln, president of VeriStor Systems, a consulting firm specializing in the architecture and delivery of enterprise data storage solutions. "EqualLogic's intelligent storage architecture has solved fundamental issues with the complexity and cost of traditional storage management, bringing immediate relief to IT managers." VeriStor's EqualLogic customers include the Georgia Department of Transportation, New South Federal Saving Bank, North Carolina Central University, Auburn University, WestCare Health System, Tennessee Oncology and others.

EqualLogic's award-winning and data-center-proven PS Series arrays are the only standards-compliant IP SANs to offer a comprehensive and fully integrated feature set at no additional cost. Each PS storage array comes with fully redundant fault-tolerant hardware and includes full-featured automatic storage-management software in a self-contained chassis. Multiple arrays can be combined to form a scalable enterprise storage grid of more than 100 terabytes.
