County of Denton Chooses Business Information Delivery Solution From Captaris and Cisco to Enhance Productivity and Reduce Costs

Posted on: Wednesday, 13 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

BELLEVUE, Wash., July 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Captaris, Inc. , a leading provider of Business Information Delivery solutions, today announced the County of Denton, Texas, has implemented a unified messaging solution combining Captaris RightFax 9.0 with the Cisco Unity enterprise messaging application. The solution exemplifies the benefits of the OEM agreement between Captaris and Cisco allowing Cisco to feature the RightFax 9.0 product line as the Cisco Fax Server. Available now, the Cisco Fax Server is an easy-to-use, easy-to-manage fax and document delivery solution that helps enable enterprises integrate voice, fax, data and desktop applications for powerful IP communications. The Cisco Fax Server can help to increase employee productivity by automating fax delivery of user-created documents; reduce costs by eliminating manual faxing, paper, phone lines, and fax machines; and improve customer service by providing secure, confirmed and immediate document delivery.

"Cisco has chosen to work with Captaris to help accelerate the adoption and utilization of fax in a converged IP environment," said Kevin Chestnut, director and general manager of Cisco's Unified Communications Business Unit. "This will help allow customers to achieve benefits similar to moving from a circuit switched voice infrastructure to a VoIP infrastructure for their organization's fax requirements. The ability to move away from hard copy faxes by using the capabilities delivered by the Cisco Fax Server further reinforces our vision of virtualization and enhanced productivity in business environments."

The Cisco Fax Server can be coupled with enterprise messaging applications such as Cisco Unity to create a powerful unified messaging solution. When used as part of a Cisco IP Communications deployment, the Cisco Fax Server further increases worker productivity by allowing users to view, create and manage all voicemail, email and fax communications from a single inbox that can be accessed from PCs, telephones and mobile devices.

The County of Denton, Texas, has realized the benefits of this unified messaging solution. "Our employees are now able to get their email, voicemail, and faxes all in one place and can also call into Unity from the road and forward faxes," said Kevin Carr, director of information services for the County of Denton. "Our Health Department also uses the fax server to send out health or emergency related notices to medical personnel at local hospitals and doctor offices. Other employees use it to easily convert paper documents to electronic documents and share them more efficiently."

Also available as part of the Cisco Fax Server solution is the RightFax SecureDocs module that enables e-mail to be sent using digital encryption technology, secure document transmission from sender to receiver and protection against tampering. SecureDocs also provides an enhanced notification feature that uses a certified delivery process. By adding a SecureDocs module to Cisco Fax Server, users have the ability to send a document securely, with the assurance that its intended recipient safely received the document.

Availability

The Cisco Fax Server, powered by the Captaris RightFax 9.0 product line, is available immediately through the Cisco channel. For more information please contact a Cisco sales representative or reseller, or visit the web site at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6178/index.html.
