Emulex LightPulse Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters
Provide Superior Connectivity Solutions To New Intel Platform
Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), announced today that its LightPulse LP9802, LP982 and dual channel LP9802DC PCI-X Fibre Channel HBAs have been fully tested and support the Intel(R) Server Platform SR870BH2 with up to two Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processors with 6MB of level 3 cache in a 2U rack-optimized form factor running Windows Server 2003 and RedHat Advanced Server. The Itanium 2-based server platform is designed to provide seamless functionality for business-critical application environments encompassing large databases, high-performance computing and large-scale data analysis. Emulex HBAs are an ideal connectivity solution supported by the Intel(R) SR870BH2 server platform for enterprise-level server customers with intelligent, highly flexible and scalable solutions.
"Intel continues to enable Emulex, OEMs and integrators by delivering leading building blocks supporting Intel Itanium 2 processors," said Phil Brace, director of Marketing, Intel Enterprise Platforms and Services Division. "The new Intel Server Platform SR870BH2 delivers the performance, leading edge technology and value customers require for demanding enterprise environments."
The Intel Itanium 2 processor is the third generation in the family of high-end processors from Intel that are uniquely architected for demanding high-end enterprise applications. The Intel Server Platform SR870BH2 and SR870BN4 are both hardware- and software-compatible with the Itanium 2 processor, offering a seamless transition as well as superior investment protection for OEMs and end-users.
"The newly-released Intel SR870BH2 server platform, which supports up to two Intel Itanium 2 processors in a 2U rack-optimized form factor, provides us with a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate our robust 64-bit hardware and software functionality," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Emulex. "Our longstanding relationship with Intel has helped enable Emulex to expand its presence into new markets, while remaining an innovator in the storage networking space."
The entire Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel HBAs continues to support both the first and follow-on generations of the Itanium processor family. The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware-based architecture and operating system driver compatibility across Emulex's entire HBA product line, which provides customers with a simplified upgrade path, reduced management complexities and also ensures a lower total cost of ownership. Emulex HBAs, including the LP9802DC, LP9802 and LP982, are fully compatible with drivers that support the company's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.
