Twitter Being Sued By Texas Firm
A Texas firm that claims Twitter infringed on three of its patents is suing the micro-blogging site.
TechRadium’s Iris provides a notification technology so alerts can be sent to multiple users.
In Iris’ system, a number of devices, including cell phones, are able to receive the messages.
The firm claims that Twitter’s free service will result in a loss of revenue for Iris, because you have to pay to use its service.
A number of corporations and municipal organizations use the Iris system, including the U.S. army.
The three patents outline an "author interface," which distributes alerts and messages that can be sent to many people.
This model of the "from one person to many" is the foundation of Twitter’s model.
According to BBC news, TechRadium’s complaint says that Twitter "intentionally, knowingly, and with "callous disregard" infringed on the firm’s patents.
TechRadium’s federal lawsuit is trying to gain unspecified damages and a permanent injunction against the micro-blogging site.
