SonicWALL Secures Networks for the Riverside County Library System

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNWL), a leading secure network infrastructure company, today announced Library Systems & Services, LLC (LSSI), a nationwide provider of outsourced library management services, has deployed a SonicWALL(R) E-Class Network Security Appliance (NSA) E7500 solution to establish high-performance LAN and VPN security for the Riverside County Library System in California.
"Our network has thousands of processes operating simultaneously, and only SonicWALL was able to handle securing them," said Luther Brady, IT Manager for Riverside County Library System and West Coast Director of Automation for LSSI. "No other vendor we considered was able to do that."
As the flagship of the E-Class NSA product family, the SonicWALL(R) E-Class Network Security Appliance (NSA) E7500 is designed to be the most scalable, reliable, and highly performing multifunction threat appliance in its class. The NSA E7500 uses a parallel performance 16-core architecture for unprecedented ultra-high-speed threat protection, reliability and scalability, as well as customizable Application Firewall tools for precise control and inspection of enterprise network traffic.
Performance is critical for Riverside County Public Libraries. With multiple public libraries and hundreds of workstations, there can be massive traffic volumes at peak times during the day. Replacing an older generation Cisco 7200, the E7500 performed at roughly 30 percent capacity when Network Address Translation (NAT) was used. After deploying the E7500, even using NAT under full load, the network was able to use the full 1 GB of throughput available at the hub, which is also the location of the library automation system and Web servers.
Brady deployed the E7500 at the central hub along with TZ 170 and TZ 190 devices at eleven remote sites, configuring VPNs between the devices to secure staff communications over public DSL and Cable Internet connections. Public wireless PCs go directly to the Internet through the SonicWALL devices without coming back to the hub, separating secured from unsecured traffic.
Brady deployed the SonicWALL Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite, and uses Application Firewall to block illegal peer-to-peer traffic. By default, he applied filtering to screen inappropriate content according to policy settings on the E7500.
The SonicWALL(R) TZ Series is a total security platform for home, small, remote and branch offices. The TZ Series delivers industry leading Unified Threat Management (UTM) network protection services to detect and remove threats. The TZ Series provides unparalleled throughput performance, cost-effective yet uncompromising UTM security, high speed IPSec and SSL VPN, and optional 802.11b/g/n wireless and 3G wireless broadband.
