Web-based lessons, shipments of off-line education materials bring school to the student
MAUMEE, Ohio, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This time of year students across the country prepare to head back to school. But for thousands of Ohio children across the state their school is just a click away through the Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) - one of the state's largest online public schools (eSchools). Monday, August 17 marks the first day of school for OHVA.
"All of us at OHVA are working very hard preparing for what will be a wonderful school year," said Jeff Shaw, OHVA Head of School. "Since the school launched in 2002, OHVA has been the premier eSchool in the state, offering families the highest quality academic programs with support from talented teachers dedicated to helping children succeed. Our entire school community is excited and stronger than ever."
OHVA is an innovative, tuition-free public school that offers students all across the state the opportunity to receive an excellent and comprehensive public education in their home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found.
Ohio Virtual Academy has become a popular school option for many families because of its highly individualized approach to learning. Each student receives a personalized learning program that is designed to meet their education needs. Elementary students are able to work at the pace that is right for them. While middle and high school classes are more structured, they still allow for greater flexibility than is typically possible in traditional schools. The technology enables children from all over the state - regardless of their geographic or economic circumstances - to attend the same school and communicate with their teachers and friends through interactive web-based programs.
OHVA uses the high quality and award-winning academic program developed by K12, the nation's largest provider of K-12 online school programs. Students access engaging web-based lessons through the K12 Online School (OLS) and off-line education materials that complement the online elements of the program. They learn outside the classroom and receive instruction, support and oversight from state-licensed teachers in partnership with a learning coach - a parent or responsible adult - who provides guidance and assistance.
OHVA teachers provide support to their families and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face events. Teachers also organize school outings across the state for students and families.
Throughout the summer, OHVA students have been receiving boxes full of education materials shipped directly to their homes in preparation for the new school year. Items included colorful textbooks, useful workbooks, exciting classical stories, hands-on math tools, maps, art books, science supplies and instruments, musical and world language CDs, and much more.
OHVA continues to accept new enrollments and hosts free information sessions and events across the state for families who may still be interested in participating in our school. A list of all events can be found at http://www.k12.com/ohva/.
