The American government system is incredibly large and complex. It is ironic then that one of the tenets that most people support is the idea of "small government." The irony is that they associate this only with the Federal government, which has resulted in increasingly larger, and now often badly-managed state and local governments.
It is possible to create a business case for a truly "small government" that is not only more efficient and responsive, but also one that can more actively ensure that the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights are more than just lip service.
