Nokia To Sell Netbooks

Nokia announced Monday that it would soon introduce a new line of laptops aimed at “satisfying a need” for wireless carriers.
The so-called Booklet 3G represents Nokia’s effort to enter the growing netbook market for wireless carriers after the Finnish company has seen its profit margins decline lately.
"We are fully aware what has the margin level been in the PC world. We have gone into this with our eyes wide open," Kai Oistamo, the head of Nokia's phone unit, told Reuters.
"There's really an opportunity to bring fresh perspective to the PC world," he said.
Nokia’s lightweight netbook will feature an aluminum casing, 10-inch screen, WiFi connections and run on Microsoft Windows OS.
It will use an Intel Atom processor and deliver up to 12 hours of battery life.
Nokia is no stranger to the PC market. Up until 1991, the company produced a variety of products, including PCs, before making the decision to focus only on cell phones.
The world’s top cell phone producer said it would announce pricing and availability details on September 2.
"The question is: How will Nokia differentiate? This is already a crowded market. If they manage to differentiate it's going to give them competitive advantage," Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi told Reuters.
The netbook market is expected to grow more than 127 percent from 2008, according to IDC research.
