MAYNARD, Mass., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Stratus Technologies today announced that it has qualified its Avance(TM) high-availability (HA) software under the Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP) to address both the growing user need and the market opportunity for mission-critical reliability.

"Integrating virtualization technology into business operations is a competitive imperative for Microsoft's customers and, with that, there is a heightened need to ensure reliability of the virtual infrastructure," said Tom Joyce, vice president and GM, Stratus Avance. "Through the SVVP program and our ongoing interaction, Stratus is working with Microsoft to drive the benefits of virtualization into new places, particularly in the small and medium-size business (SMB) marketplace. Stratus Avance software complements Windows-based virtual applications and infrastructure by delivering best-in-class high availability."
Microsoft's SVVP enables Stratus and other software providers to test and validate their machine virtualization software to run Windows Server 2008 and certain other previous versions of Windows Server. Under this program, Microsoft offers cooperative technical support via TSANet, to customers running Windows Server on validated, non-Microsoft server virtualization software, such as Stratus Avance software.
"The Microsoft Server Virtual Validation Program helps ensure that customers have a consistent and productive support experience when using validated non-Microsoft virtualization software, regardless of the vendor," said Dai Vu, director of virtualization solutions marketing, Server and Tools Business at Microsoft Corp. "Reliability is an essential piece of that experience, as well as a top-of-mind concern of customers. The purpose of Stratus Avance software is to provide high availability to virtual applications. We are pleased that Stratus Technologies has qualified Avance under the Microsoft Server Virtualization Validation Program."
The simplicity and affordability of Avance software, together with its self-monitoring, self- management and predictive failure prevention features, are particularly well suited to computing needs of small and medium size businesses. Avance software transforms ordinary x86 servers into a high availability computing platform. Virtualization is built-in and preconfigured for immediate activation, fully leveraging Avance performance to ensure greater than 99.99 percent uptime for virtual machines and applications.
