Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms Receive '2009 Best FPGA Product Award' from China Electronics News

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 September 2009, 06:26 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) today announced China Electronics News (CEN) honored Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms with the "2009 Best FPGA Product Award" at the 2009 China FPGA Industry Development Forum held in Chengdu, August 28, 2009. The award recognizes the outstanding advantages of the platforms in helping designers greatly reduce development cycles, easily implement innovative designs, and significantly strengthen their competitiveness.

"The Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms have put FPGAs into a new context," said Liu Dong, Editor-in-Chief of CEN. "The 'FPGA' is no longer simply a separate chip, nor does it involve a simple collection of chip-based IP, development tools, and boards. Xilinx has integrated these separate elements into a unified solution to help customers significantly reduce R&D cycles, giving them an edge in today's competitive markets."

CEN, China's electronics information leader, hosted the "2009 China FPGA Industry Development Forum" during the 2009 China (Chengdu) Electronics Fair, and established the FPGA awards to recognize and support FPGA vendors who have made outstanding contributions and achieved major breakthroughs. Awards were chosen through a three-step process; selection and recommendation by senior editors and reporters of the Base Electronics Edition of CEN; evaluation and selection by experts from third party institutions, and a public online poll.

"That Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms have won CEN's 'Best FPGA Product Award' fully demonstrates the great demand for and high recognition of simpler, smarter and more strategically feasible FPGA design platforms among electronic designers," said Clement Cheung, marketing and application director for Xilinx Asia Pacific. "Xilinx has committed itself to making use of programmable technologies to speed up the development and innovation of electronic designs in China."

Introduced by Xilinx with its new Virtex(R)-6 and Spartan(R)-6 FPGA families, Targeted Design Platforms provide embedded, DSP, and hardware designers alike with access to a wide array of silicon devices supported by open standards, common design flows, IP, development tools, and run-time platforms. The Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms are composed of three strata including Base Platform, Domain-Specific Platform, and Market-Specific Platform; offering the optimum in flexibility, accessibility, applicability, and time to market.

The new Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 FPGA Evaluation Kits announced in June provide all the elements needed to design right out of the box, so both new and experienced FPGA users can achieve the best performance, lowest power, highest bandwidth, and most feature-rich utilization.

In addition to CEN's "Best FPGA Product Award", Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms were also selected as finalists in the 2009 EDN China Innovation Awards, together with the 40nm high-performance Virtex-6 FPGA family.
