Apangea Learning Releases Apangea Math 6.0

September 8, 2009

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ — With many worried about the long-term consequences of America’s lagging math skills, struggling and at-risk K-12 math students across the country now can access the most effective and comprehensive Web-based math tutoring service ever offered.

Apangea Learning (www.apangealearning.com), leaders in personalized online tutoring, said today that it has released version 6.0 of its award-winning Apangea Math service.

The upgraded service enhances individual students’ ability to work at their own pace to develop both problem-solving skills and mastery of math concepts. Apangea Math 6.0 also gives teachers new tools to better manage their classrooms and administrators the capability to more accurately track achievement levels.

First launched in 2002 and now in use by thousands of U.S. schools and individual subscribers, Apangea Math remains the only online supplemental learning service that provides real-time, one-on-one tutoring by U.S.-certified math teachers.

“While we are gratified by the impact Apangea Math has had on students from a broad cross-section of America, there is an urgent need to get math front and center as a priority for students at all levels,” said Mark DeSantis, Apangea Learning CEO. “We believe our approach to differentiated learning and individualized learning pathways can play a significant role in getting America’s young people turned on to math.”

Added DeSantis, “Guided by feedback from the students, teachers and administrators we serve, we have made a great service even better.”

Version 6.0 of Apangea Math features additional rigorous content aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards; new assessment, reporting and feedback capabilities; and an engaging, customizable interface designed for today’s online savvy students.

The online tutoring service also incorporates built-in motivational programs to keep students engaged in their math studies and to encourage them to work hard and succeed.

Among the benefits of Apangea Math 6.0:

  • STUDENTS can utilize a new self-monitoring system to measure their individual progress, giving them confidence to tackle increasingly more challenging work.
  • FAMILIES can share in the learning process through after-hours work from home.
  • TEACHERS can focus instruction and better meet the needs of each and every student by utilizing Apangea Math for those who need it most, when they need it.
  • ADMINISTRATORS can use Apangea Math’s full diagnostic and prescriptive assessment reporting to monitor district- and school-wide progress and as a preventive measure to identify students who, without remedial math instruction, might fall into a “special needs” category.

“Apangea Math 6.0 will make a real difference in the lives of many, many students, giving them skills to succeed in the years ahead,” Apangea Learning CEO DeSantis said. “We believe Apangea Math is a better way to learn math – one student at a time.”
