Motorola Completes LTE Solution with Wireless Broadband Core 700 Portfolio

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Home & Networks Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the launch of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solution - the Wireless Broadband Core (WBC) 700 portfolio. The Motorola WBC 700 solution is comprised of Motorola's mobility management entity (MME), packet and serving gateways (P-GW and S-GW), and a policy and charging rules function server (PCRF).

The WBC 700 portfolio, which helps operators meet the rapid growth in subscriber demands for mobile broadband by giving them the opportunity to increase revenue while substantially reducing cost per bit, is scheduled to be available in late 2009.

The EPC is a new foundation for next generation mobile broadband that provides a core network to support hosted applications, heavy multimedia content and high-speed Internet connectivity on the go. Motorola's award-winning EPC dedicated control and bearer core architecture that includes its industry leading MME, gives operators the flexibility, performance and capacity they'll need to effectively operate their future LTE networks.

Motorola's WBC 700 solution is engineered with a design philosophy of distributed architecture for flexible solutions that can scale independently for data traffic or mobility in line with the EPC standard functional architecture. Motorola's MME leverages Motorola's hardware, software and expertise gained from its CDMA IP-BSC DO and mobile IP controller to deliver high levels of reliability and performance.

Motorola's WBC 700 solution also features best-in-breed elements from industry-leading companies, including a purpose-built intelligent multi-technology gateway platform which serves as both the P-GW and S-GW, and a PCRF that uses a smart approach to policy enforcement to deliver a compelling end-to-end EPC solution.

Motorola's LTE Solution

Motorola continues to build on LTE momentum after a series of successful advancements in the first half of 2009. Recently, Motorola announced that it has been selected by KDDI as a key development vendor to help develop and implement KDDI's nationwide LTE network. Following the successful live LTE experiences in Las Vegas and Barcelona, Motorola's LTE drive tour also went to Sweden. Motorola is engaged in LTE trial activity with operators in North America, Europe and Asia, and has a full LTE trial network and testing lab in Swindon, UK.
