Big Network on Campus: Verizon Wireless Invests in Voice and Data Service Around Colleges Nationwide

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Bulldogs, Wolverines, Bisons, Hurricanes and all other American collegians are back on campus, and the Verizon Wireless network is there with them. In and around college campuses nationwide, Verizon Wireless has been working to improve call quality and network performance to help more students place voice calls; send e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones.
Verizon Wireless engineers were hard at work throughout the spring and summer to expand capacity in the company's regional switching facilities and build new digital cell sites with on-site back-up power to ensure the Verizon Wireless network was ready for the increase in calling and data activity on U.S. campuses. In some cases temporary Cells on Wheels were brought in, as needed, to provide additional capacity.
